Who we are

Newman Pre-School Playgroup is a registered charity situated in the “Meeting Room” at the Crofton Halls in Orpington. We are open 36 weeks per year, in line with Bromley school terms, Monday to Friday from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm.

Operating for over 25 years, the pre-school is run by a team of fully qualified early years practitioners with a wealth of childcare experience, and managed by a voluntary Parent Committee who are responsible for fundraising and the general administration of the pre-school. We are Ofsted registered to provide early years care and learning for children aged 2 years and 6 months to school age, in a group of no more than 30 per day. We were last visited by Ofsted in 2018 and graded Good, consistent with previous inspections in 2011 and 2015. We are proud that our adult-to-child ratios are higher than those legally required by the Early Years Foundation Stage, enabling us to offer a high attention to detail and the best experience for every child in our care.

We have a lovely, purpose-built outside area which we use all year round (weather permitting of course!) to enhance the learning of all our children. We offer a wide variety of activities including painting, sticking, play dough, sand, water, music, singing and cooking to name a few!

We are a member of the Early Years Alliance and operate using their Model Pre-School Constitution 2013.

Key Person

Our Key Person system gives each member of staff particular responsibilities for just a few children. The Key Person is positioned to tailor the curriculum to the unique needs to each child, they also work with parents to ensure that all children are supported in reaching their full potential. Parents are involved in shared record-keeping about their own child, either formally or informally.
